Dynamics of the Gut Microbiome: Exploring Influences and Exposures Across the Life Course
Abstract: The gut microbiome is an emerging frontier of human health, which plays a role in gastrointestinal, hepatic, metabolic, cardiovascular, immune, and neurologic disease. Because of its broad health implications and high plasticity, the gut microbiome represents an excellent target for disease prevention. Therefore, my research is aimed at understanding which factors shape the gut microbiome, utilizing fecal metabolomics as a functional readout of the gut microbiota. This talk will explore how behavioral and environmental exposures are associated with the gut microbiome across the life course, with an emphasis on early life.
