Research on the cancer care continuum has benefited from linkages between state central cancer registries and medical claims databases. Claims include patient-level longitudinal information on cancer screening, treatment, and payments, but claims alone are limited since precise diagnosis date, cancer stage, tumor characteristics, mortality, and demographics are not present or are incomplete. Most linkages to date have been performed using data from single payers (e.g., Medicare fee-for-service, Medicaid) or a handful of private payers. This seminar describes ongoing efforts to link cancer registry data with newly-created All-Payer Claims Databases. All-payers databases include claims for most of the population in a state.
