METHODOLOGICAL CHALLENGES IN PERINATAL EPIDEMIOLOGY

Abstract: In this seminar, I will discuss several methodological challenges in perinatal epidemiology, including live birth bias, fixed cohort bias, immortal time bias, and collider stratification bias. I will present examples from published studies and discuss possible solutions.

Bio: Sarah Jorgensen is a perinatal epidemiologist and associate research scientist at the Center for Clinical Epidemiology and Population Health, Marshfield Clinic Research Institute. Her research focuses on maternal and infant health outcomes following exposure to vaccines and therapeutics and infectious diseases epidemiology. She completed undergraduate studies in mathematics and pharmacy at the University of British Columbia, a PharmD at the University of Florida, MPH at Wayne State University, and PhD at the University of Toronto. She has a professional background in multiple areas of inpatient and outpatient clinical pharmacy, most recently working as an antimicrobial stewardship pharmacist at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, Ontario.
