Dengue Dynamics in the Dominican Republic: Addressing Surveillance Failures
Abstract: Cases of dengue fever have soared in Latin America in the last decade. The increase is mostly attributed to climate change; however, other factors have also played an important role. In this talk, I will describe the behavior of dengue in the Dominican Republic over the last 20 years, highlight failures in disease surveillance that have led to delayed action in preventing outbreaks, and propose methods to address those failures.
