What are your areas of interest within population health sciences? Infectious Disease

Interest Statement: I graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Parkside in 2018 where I accumulated a double Bachelor’s degree in Applied Health Science and Psychology. In addition, I graduated with a minor in Exercise Science and two certificates in Human Measurement and Research and Neuroscience. During my time at UW – Parkside I had an influential professor who I had the privilege of working with on research where I was introduced to the career field of Epidemiology. Following my time at UW – Parkside, I continued my education at Eastern Virginia Medical School pursuing my MPH in Epidemiology and graduated in 2020. I have a passion for research and learning and, in my free time, I enjoy traveling!

What experiences in your life led you to study population/public health? During my time at UW – Parkside, I had an influential professor who I had the privilege of working with on research. It was great exposure to identifying, developing, and modifying a research question significant to the public health field. I enjoyed working with the statistical software and seeing the results that were accumulated following the data collection. I loved presenting this research with my professor and talking discussing the different methods we used to present the research. From this experience, I knew that I wanted a career centered around research which lead me into the public health field!

Why did you choose UW-Madison for your degree? I chose UW – Madison for my degree because I love the state of Wisconsin! UW – Madison offers multitudinous research and job opportunities and was the perfect fit for me while applying to a PhD program in Epidemiology. The program faculty are outstanding which truly set them apart from any other program in the state of Wisconsin.

What do you hope/plan to do with your degree? Following my time at UW – Madison, I hope to have a career in government working on research/statistical analysis.
