About the Health Innovation Program (HIP)
The Health Innovation Program was created in 2006 as a joint effort between the UW School of Medicine and Public Health and local healthcare organizations to increase partnerships between researchers and healthcare organizations to improve patient care and outcomes.
Goal
The goal of HIP is to improve healthcare delivery and population health across the state and nation through health systems research that partners University of Wisconsin faculty with healthcare and community organizations.
Vision
To be the leading organization in the nation that integrates health systems research with clinical practice and community programs.

Disseminating Our Work
HIPxChange, a website sponsored by the Health Innovation Program, contains tools and materials for evidence-based health system change that are available for free to the public. The goal of HIPxChange is to accelerate the translation of new and existing knowledge into clinical practice to improve healthcare delivery and health outcomes.
Funding
HIP investigators have externally-funded research programs with funding primarily from AHRQ and NIH. In partnership with the Institute of Clinical and Translational Research, HIP has created research resources to support early-stage investigators interested in health services research, and many investigators have career development awards that are supported by matching funds from HIP. HIP also receives funding from the Wisconsin Partnership Program and UW Health to support health services research that directly benefits the citizens of Wisconsin. More recently, HIP created an analytics resource for the UW Health Accountable Care Organization.
