  • Associate Professor

Biography

My main research interests include the distribution of cardiovascular diseases and risk factors in developing countries, the etiology of coronary heart disease, and the role of chronic mild inflammation and endothelial function on the development of essential hypertension. I am the Principal Investigator of the Consortium of Latin American Studies on Obesity (LASO). The main goal of LASO is to understand the causes and consequence of obesity in Latin America. A major topic of my research is the link between mild chronic inflammation and the development and clinical course of essential hypertension. I am also conducting studies on the role of quality of life, depression and socioeconomic factors on non-adherence to pharmacologic treatment among patients with hypertension.
