Established in 1946, the Fulbright Program has provided hundreds of thousands of students and professionals the opportunity to study, research, and teach in 160 countries around the world. Edith Marie was recently selected for a Fulbright Open Study/Research Award in Germany. She will be spending ten months in Potsdam and Berlin, Germany, working with the Survey of Health, Retirement, and Aging in Europe (SHARE) and the psychology department at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. While there, Edith Marie will conduct fieldwork towards her dissertation project; she is studying loneliness as a modifiable risk factor for dementia and will conduct interviews and participatory observation with older adults. Currently, she is finishing similar fieldwork in Madison and is thankful to her dissertation committee at UW and her research partners in Germany for helping her pursue this exciting opportunity!
