Jason Fletcher Leads Team to Advance Understanding of Geographic Health Disparities

Jason Fletcher and his team of researchers were able to reconceptualize an important demographic measure by analyzing a sample of nearly 1.5 million individuals from the newly available Mortality Disparities in American Communities (MDAC) data set, which links respondents in the 2008 American Community Survey (ACS) to official death records from the National Death Index. The currently available mortality follow-up period extends until December 31, 2015.  Findings were published in  Demography, “Understanding Geographic Disparities in Mortality,” on April 1, 2023.

By looking at where people were born instead of where they ultimately move to and die, geographic disparities in mortality look different, according to a new study by Jason Fletcher.
