Recovery High Schools as Continuing Care for Adolescent Drug Abuse

The National Institute on Drug Abuse has funded this exploratory (R21) research to conduct the first national study of recovery high school programs. Objectives of the research are to describe and explicate recovery school models, describe their students and assess the feasibility for a rigorous evaluation of the effectiveness of these schools. The methods include reviews of written materials, site visits to 18 schools including semi-structured interviews of administrators, teachers, counseling staff and referral agents, and surveys of over 300 students.
